EASA has just published an update to AirCrew dated 26/11/2025.

1. GM1 FCL.020(a) — Use of SEP aircraft with different engine variants
A student pilot wishing to be authorized to fly solo on a different engine variant than the one used during their initial training must demonstrate that they have mastered the skills necessary to operate this new variant safely. For variants equipped with an electric engine, differences training must be conducted in accordance with AMC1 FCL.710(a) , which defines a set of theoretical and practical skills that the pilot must acquire.
2. AMC1 FCL.720.A(c)(4)(ii) and associated GMs — Content of QC/QT extension refresher flight (aircraft)
The theoretical briefing for this flight must last at least 15 minutes and must include the following elements:
Threat and error management (TEM), including decision-making in the event of adverse weather or unintentional IMC, or based on everyday life situations (passenger pressure, technical problems, etc.)
navigation techniques,
Recovery strategies adapted to different dropout scenarios
The exercises covered during the refresher flight must be based on the exercises in 17FormExa. In all cases, they must cover at least the detection and recovery of the following situations:
Total or partial engine failure simulated in different phases of flight.
A selection and management of various dropout scenarios.
3. GM1 FCL.810 — Solo night flights as part of NVT training
Before authorizing a student to conduct a solo night flight, the instructor must assess several essential elements, including:
possible weather variations
the availability and any restrictions on the use of the aerodrome,
the need for an alternate airfield,
as well as any exceptional conditions that may impact flight safety.
4. GM1 Appendix 9, Section B, item (5)(l) — PBN Privileges without RNP Approaches
RNP approaches are defined as PBN procedures from the final approach to touchdown. A pilot with PBN privileges but no RNP approach privileges can still perform:
the SIDs,
cruising routes (en route),
the STARs.
The exclusion of the privilege to perform PBN approaches is explicitly mentioned on the license by the mention: "No RNP APCH" .
5. AMC1 FCL930.IR I — IRI Training Course
To align with FCL930.IR I, practical training for an IRI(A) now includes 10 hours of instruction on either an aircraft OR a simulator (FFS, FNPT II, or FTD2/3). It is therefore possible to complete the entire IRI(A) syllabus on a simulator, on an aircraft, or on both (subject to approval by the Authority if the ATO wishes to modify its syllabus).
